THOUSANDS OF LAKES AND 818 ISLANDS – Tartu, Estonia: classical and baroque style, combined with delicious food

tartu.1.1When your geographical horizon extends – for business or pleasure – you have the wonderful opportunity to hear you inside. A perfectly proportioned man (created by Leonardo da Vinci), correlating the symmetry of human anatomy to the symmetry of the universe. What you see, hear, eat and feel, it’s all inside Meeting Benches way: the Vitruvian approach to life. 47,599 sq km in area, 818 islands and thousands of lakes. Welcome to Estonia, on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Forests of pine and birch trees, many rivers, but also an incredibly rich fauna, where the brown bear and the wolf, lynx together, remind you that you are in a land where nature rules sovereignly. You’ll find that the population of this small republic has much in common – linguistically and culturally – with the Finns. Certainly you will have already visited Tallinn, and its wonderful medieval center will be left in your eyes, but what we want is to talk to the southeast of this nation. http://www.visitestonia.com/en

tartu.2.1Our desire is to tell you about a medieval city – Tartu – that in the sixteenth century was the second important city of Estonia. The city that you will see, is enclosed between the Hill of the Cathedral and the Emajõgi River, but these two natural protectors do not have enough protected, during her troubled past. The buildings that you see, only two are medieval, because for 55 times the story has knocked on the walls of the city, devastating completely. The two surviving buildings? The Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul (with a beautiful park), and the Church of St. John. Do not forget – observing this city rebuilt in classical and baroque style – to go to the Town Hall Square, and also to go to admire the Corinthian columns of the university. Did you remember to see the pagan sacrificial stone, in the Hill of the Cathedral? http://www.visitestonia.com/en/where-to-go/south-estonia/tartu?site_preference=normal

tartu3.1The Vilde Restaurant has what’s perhaps the best a la carte menu in town. The delicious food is combined with an impressive wine cellar and on weekends the place comes alive with its live music nights. Don’t rush past the cool statue of writers Vilde and Wilde chatting outside! The writers Wilde and Vilde would have gladly stepped into this restaurant. Excellent food, nice atmosphere, rich history and great service make a killer combo. Wilde has definitely got it all plus a beautiful summer terrace. http://www.vilde.ee/eng/
