WADERS AND CARETTA CARETTA – Ponta do Ervatao and the encounter with the magic of nature. Boavista Island, Cape Verde

waders1.1If you want an internet café you can go to Criola Gelateria, or at the Surf Center. I’ll wait at the beach, because the island Boavista offers us the possibility of an incredible hike, towards the Sanctuary of the Turtles. We’ll have to go over Curral Velho, looking the beaches of Praia de Joao Barrosa and Ervatao. Just in that area – between May and October – we can admire the kindness of turtles Caretta caretta, and lay their eggs. I would like to take the internal road (the one between Rabil and Cabeco das Tarafes), because in this way, going south, we will have less bounce. http://www.capeverde.com/

waders2.1When we get to Ponta do Ervatao we will be in good company, because it is precisely in that remote area of the island that – students and professors of the University of Las Palmas – they study and protect the turtles, even teaching those arriving (like us), the observance of a ritual that has been repeated for millennia, above these beaches. Laying eggs, and hatched, in the enchantment of the beach and lagoon, are moments of a unique magic in the world. I hope that none of coconut falls on our head, while you boobies photographers, waders and Caretta caretta. http://www.capeverde.com/islands/boa-vista.html
