RAMON GOMEZ CORNET 1/3 – Born in a prestigious family, he belonged to a generation, which with aestheticism renewed Argentine art. Moving between abstraction and figuration, he lived a creative trajectory between the boundaries of modern and classic. Painter, who is perceived as one of the forerunners of modern Argentine painting was born in Santiago del Estero, devoting himself to the artistic identification and extrinsication of the roots of the Latin American character. By observing eyes of children from northern Argentina and magnificent magnolias, you can breathe his artistic production. RAMON GOMEZ CORNET 2/3 – At age 20, he had portrayed his maternal grandparents, which are on display in Museum of Santiago del Estero http://www.santiagocultura.gob.ar/ After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cordoba, he had traveled to Europe (where Cézanne and Renoir had profoundly influenced him), gathering experiences, which contributed to increase of his human knowledge. After painting in Paris and Barcelona, he knew great masters and avant-garde movements. In 1916, in Barcelona, his first show had been successful in criticism. In 1921, he returned to Buenos Aires, becoming the pioneer of new trends, which other compatriots would follow later. RAMON GOMEZ CORNET 3/3 – Returning to Santiago del Estero, he picked up the creative challenge of his humble and dry land after finding a new creative challenge: man and his landscape. “We want to paint people and we have not been able to understand men. That’s why I’m always learning.” He entered the melancholy of the disadvantaged of the earth, painted them with a palette of colors with refined contrasts. He was also a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Mendoza, from which emerged other internationally renowned artists. During his life he made almost 1500 works. This sensible artist, who perceived poetic atmospheres died in Buenos Aires in the spring of 1964 at the age of 66.
