BETWEEN PAPERS OF TIME: Poems, by Mario Melendez

ONE DAY I WILL RETURN IN YOUR EYES

One day I will return your eyes,

and I begin again.

I return with an empty sound of metal,

sun and wet.

I will try through the papers of the time,

your body and your hair green grape.

I will crown you in silence with my mouth,

and with my hands that they do not end.

I will come to you and your blood starry

seeing pass the evening as an old shadow.

Something will break up there and we will not,

something will burn instantly with the echo of your sheets.

And I’ll come more alive, more pure, more hungry.

And I’ll come flying and breaking pens.

I will do everything for you, all in silence,

that even the roosters lengthen the night,

to see you naked.

A WOMAN IS STOPPED ON A BRIDGE

A woman stopped on a bridge

that never existed.

Her skin that was never kissed

floating on the waters of time,

as a memory faceless.

A letter was never read,

struggle to reach the shore

because someone finds out.

A man who never read,

who can not read,

who he has never learned,

finds the letter and the body

under that bridge.

Man cries of helplessness

while the letter comes undone

between his fingers

The river is full of tears,

it has mercy on the man

and he reveals the secret of that letter.

And the man mad with love

He combines his nights and his delusions,

to jump from the bridge

that never existed.
