275 meters long and 140 wide, it is about 400 meters from the shore. The island is dominated by the Seminary, built in 1844 on the ruins of the castle. Beautiful, in 30 minutes it’s all yours! That fantastic island in the middle of Lake Orta, can be reached from Orta San Giulio (every 15-20 minutes, and the ride takes about 5-10 minutes). The island is small, and you can learn in 30 minutes. You can visit a church, with wonderful views, including alleys leading down to the water. The only path is the one that runs round the island, and takes you back to the mooring of boats. Very, very interesting it is “the path of silence”, with exceptional views if you love photography (but also with a great restaurant). If you expected the usual small island with many shops and restaurants, you were wrong the island. Here everything is small, everything is quiet. Orta, is an oasis of serenity in a desert of hectic and noisy modern life. Beautiful, believe me. The island of San Giulio, is accessible by two ferries that run every 15 minutes (one public and one private). The island is very characteristic, because apart from being deserted and silent, it gives you amazing views of the lake. The climate is different than that of Orta San Giulio, with the temperature which is slightly lower. Do not forget that the island is generally very windy. The nature, the view of the lake and the alleys. Hard to find a more suitable place than this to describe the word peace. Just landings you realize that here the silence matters most.
