http://www.visitgreece.gr/ You’ll have to get away from Laganas and from the crowded tourist resorts, to find out what this island is primitive and beautiful. Renting a car, you can travel Zante (or Zakynthos island) in all its extension, with streets in good condition, which will lead to beautiful places, like Kampi (beautiful view of the sea) and Moni tis Panagiastis Anafonitrias (a splendid monastery of the sixteenth century). You’ll have to get to the north of the island to Cape Skinari, to see (in a boat), the Blue Caves (the cave higher just below the lighthouse at Cape Skinari), with amazingly clear water and turquoise. http://www.zanteisland.com/en/index.php?language=english
You will certainly break even in Laganas Bay, because it is in these waters that turtles like to emigrate, for thousands of years. “Caretta caretta” is the scientific name of this sea creature that reaches than 180 kg, an animal that mild night lays its eggs in the sand (it seems the softest of all Greece). The booming tourism (particularly increased in this Gulf), has created problems for the survival of the turtles (partly solved now), but the advice is to rent a boat with a glass bottom, then moved away from the bay and listen to the concert nature, simply observing a sea turtle, millions of years of evolution. http://www.zanteisland.com/en/turtles-zakynthos.php
