ITALIAN CREATIVITY / ART ITINERARY – From Sardinia to Veneto, along with four special people

Scent of Italy, from the Sardinian Cavalcade to the roast turbot of the oven

Our itinerary in Italian creativity begins in this Mediterranean island. The choice is vast, the possibilities of stay are many. In Sardinia you can stay in a hotel or in a residence, but there are cheaper solutions (such as a bed and breakfast or an agriturismo). If you want to experience the thrill of contact with nature, a campsite is an excellent solution. The Costa Smeralda and the resorts around Olbia are undisputed centers of tourism. Areas such as Santa Teresa di Gallura, La Maddalena and Golfo Aranci are instead frequented by a more accessible tourism.

On the penultimate Sunday of May the Sardinian Cavalcade is held here, with characters parading in traditional costumes in front of thousands of visitors. An important point of reference in the north of Sardinia, Sassari http://turismosassari.it/en is an ancient city rich in history and art. Its Sanna Museum is a real concentrate of archeology, but if you prefer to walk in a place of naturalistic interest you can go to the Park of Monserrato, a green oasis on the outskirts of the city.

Already at the age of two, ALDO DEL VIGO had a pencil in his hand with which he made mysterious hieroglyphics. He is a self-taught painter who lives and works in Sassari. After obtaining the diploma of publishing graphics in Switzerland, he paints subjects that vegetate in his subconscious, but doing so is aware of not being aware of what he paints.

From Sardinia you moved to the south of Italy, to know places where creativity has been able to be born and grow. In this area of Basilicata, you can visit the archaeological site of Grumentum, as well as the National Archaeological Museum of Alta Val d’Agri. Visiting Montemurro, you will also know the House of the Muses, the one that houses the book fund of the poet Leonardo Sinisgalli. In two rooms, his books and drawings, his advertisements and the tools of his work are preserved.

For his versatility, LEONARDO SINISGALLI had been called “a Leonardo of the Twentieth Century”. He was born in Montemurro, but in 1925 he moved to Rome, studying engineering and maturing his poetic vocation. In addition to being a poet, he had been an essayist and art critic, but as a poet he had sought the essentiality of the word, becoming one of the most representative writers of the Italian hermetic season.

After your experience in the south of Italy, you finally arrived in Rome, where you can book your romantic hotel for at least two nights. Where to go? Hotel Crossing Condotti, http://www.crossingcondotti.com/ just a few steps from Via Condotti and Piazza di Spagna, this small boutique hotel occupies an old private residence, guaranteeing you a comfortable and quiet stay.

In Rome, in the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art you will find the largest collection of contemporary Italian art. In its rooms, you can see the great masterpieces of the only Italian museum dedicated entirely to modern art. In Room 14, along with the many works of art, you will also find those of Carrà, Giorgio Morandi and Andrea Francesco Alberto de Chirico (artistic name Alberto Savinio).

ALBERTO SAVINIO, brother of the painter Giorgio de Chirico, was born on an August day in 1891, becoming a writer, painter and composer. In 1905, at the death of his father, his family moved to Munich, where he undertook the study of Schopenhauer and Nietzsch. After the end of the First World War he had settled in Rome, where he had begun to publish his narrative texts.

Your eyes are full of the beauty of Rome, and it is with this intimate satiety that you can move to Northern Italy. Among its many famous natives, a pope, two sculptors and the singer-songwriter Angelo Branduardi. The first traces of human settlements in Cuggiono date back to ancient times. Its interesting archaeological finds are collected in the Archaeological Museum of Legnano. Do not forget to also visit Villa Annoni, a majestic neo-classical villa dating back to the Napoleonic era, with a huge park realized in romantic style.

His spirit for the faithful re-enactment of popular music from past eras, takes shape in a chain of record works. Born in 1950 in Cuggiono, ANGELO BRANDUARDI managed to also enter fairy tales in Italian song, drawing on the popular legends of many nations. With poeticity of the texts sobriety of the arrangements, his debut took place in 1974. http://www.angelobranduardi.it/eng/home.htm

Three art jewels in Milan? The Last Supper, a painting by Leonardo da Vinci preserved in the former refectory of the convent adjacent to the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Entering the Ambrosiana Art Gallery you can admire La canestra di frutta, a small oil painting on canvas created by Caravaggio around 1596. Dated 1504, The Marriage of the Virgin is a painting by Raffaello Sanzio conserved in the Pinacoteca di Brera. This is one of the most famous works, and marks the beginning of the stage of his artistic maturity. In this city, the existential story of the painter Alberto Martini was completed.

At the end of the First World War, attending the Parisian artistic environment, the painter ALBERTO MARTINI performed works of surrealist setting, making friends that introduced him to the important salons of that city. In 1952 he had participated in the XXVI Venice Biennale, presenting pen drawings in pastel colored ink. He died in Milan, just two years later.

Your journey in Italian creativity is about to complete, with experience in the north east of Italy, in Veneto. Among its architectures, the ancient town of Oderzo reveals the fragments of a Roman town hall. The traces of its past splendor constitute the wealth of its oldest Archaeological Museum, in the barchessa of Palazzo Foscolo. The sixteenth-century building is also home to the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Pinacoteca entitled to the artist opitergino Alberto Martini. Do not forget to stop in Piazza Grande, observing its particular stage shape where the Opera in Piazza Festival takes place every year.

In Veneto it is impossible to resist in front of its pasta and beans, bigoli with duck and radicchio with sopressa. Even in Oderzo you eat well and drink well, so you can stop at the restaurant wine shop Sosteria, http://www.sosteria.com/ choosing as an appetizer the pecorino cake with walnuts, to continue with the tagliolini (garnished with scallops) and broccoli flowers flavored with dried tomatoes), and roasted turbot (with grilled porcini).

Born in Oderzo, ALBERTO MARTINI was an Italian painter, engraver, lithographer, illustrator and graphic artist. In 1898 he had stayed in Munich, working as an illustrator for some magazines. In the immediate post-war period, his interest in the theater was born, with the creation of drawings (with pen and colored watercolor), as well as tempera boards for the costumes of the ballet. In 1914 he had participated in the VII Venice Biennale, exposing some of his drawings and two oils. A few years after his death, a picture gallery named after him was set up in Oderzo, where many of his graphic and pictorial works were preserved.
