More than 2,500 years ago, they were built by Greek architects, in front of the sea, over the hills that preserve the infinite sweetness. Texts timeless – that retain the charm of Oedipus and Prometheus, Iliad and Agamemnon – in the same charming atmosphere of ancient theaters in the shape of a shell. Those masterpieces were built with stone, on scenic hills of Sicily. From the second half of the twentieth century, many of those theaters were reopened to the public. They still have excellent acoustics, and all of them welcome the tale of the great human themes: love, betrayal and justice. http://pti.regione.sicilia.it/portal/page/portal/SIT_PORTALE/SIT_EnglishVersion
Two thousand years ago, Tindari was a rich city, and archaeological excavations have brought to light even a special theater. Sitting on those steps, along with other 3 thousand spectators, in front of a panorama you will not forget, the Tindari theater gives you a landscape that embraces the Tyrrhenian Sea, with views of the Aeolian islands, the Sicilian coast and on the Calabrian. In that theater, until August 27, you can attend numerous representations (Miles Gloriosus Plautus, Sophocles’ Oedipus the King, the Iliad and The Trojan Women Seneca). On August 13, you will need to be up early, at 5 am, why do you expect the Dawn of Tindari and the painter Antonello da Messina. http://www.sicilia-turismo.com/tindari/
