He told her he was like before, that he still loved her, that he could never stop loving her, that he would love her to death.” The story is that of a forbidden love for two reasons: the young age of girl and existing conventions (the difference of race and that of social class). Their relationship is opposed by the father of the young, but used by her family to find relief from poverty.
