ELIS REGINA, BRAZILIAN POP AND JAZZ SINGER – Her death, at the age of 36, shocked Brazil

Echeverria was seven years old, when her mother brought her to sing in a radio program. That little girl, who became famous singer with the name Elis Regina was born in Porto Alegre in January, 1945. For her, singing was like a priesthood. In 1965, she was the guest of “O thin bossa” (a musical TV show), becoming the best paid singer in the country. Interpreting Brazilian music, she lived throughout the golden age of Brazilian music, from when the “bossa nova” began to impersonate abroad too. Her rendition of Jobim / Vinicius‘ song “Por Toda A Minha Vida” appeared on the soundtrack to the 2002 movie Hable con Ella (Talk to Her) directed by Pedro Almodóvar and her song “Roda” appeared on the soundtrack to the 2005 movie Be Cool.

It was her temperament, which gave her nickname “Hurricane” but she preferred to be called Elis, Queen. In January 1982, she died using a mix of alcohol and cocaine, only 36 years old. During her funeral, thousands of people gathered at the Morumbi cemetery in a touching silence. Arrastão (Pull The Trawling Net) is the song, which Edu Lobo composed for her in 1965, a musical song, she won the award as Best Singer at the Excelsior TV Music Festival with. Most of her entire 20 year recorded discography is still available.
