BAD INTENTIONS – Novel by Karin Fossum

Compassionate meditations on crime

For a time she worked in hospitals and nursing homes, also assisting drug addicts with rehabilitation. She is the author of the Inspector Konrad Sejer series of crime novels (which have been translated many languages). The Inspector Konrad Sejer, her creationis, is not typical of Scandinavian detective figures. He is a mild-mannered widower who never loses control. While many of his contemporaries have problems with authority, he actually finds comfort in the order it brings. She was initially a poet, with her first collection published in 1974 (when she was just 20). Known as the “Norwegian queen of crime”, she lives in Oslo. Karin Fossum is a Norwegian author of crime fiction, born in Sandefjord, in an November day, 1954.

Here, where this writer was born, Vikings have left their mark here, as has the whaling industry. Sandefjord http://www.visitvestfold.com/en/sandefjord/ boasts miles of coastline (as well as a rich historical heritage). This town is home to a variety of galleries, sculptures and museums, including the Whaling Museum http://www.hvalfangstmuseet.no/en/ the Europe’s only museum dedicated to whaling.

By browsing the pages of his novel, “Bad Intentions,” you will discover that in the middle of a golden September, on the uninhabited banks a pond, three friends find themselves spending a weekend together. In the night, lit by the moon, they decide to go out on a boat. But this time, to come back, they are only in two. The third friend dropped into the waters of the lake, in the eyes of his companions. That boy was suffering from psychic disturbances, he had already tried to take away his life. Of him, a diary has been filled with remorse, pages that refer to an episode of the past that also involves the two friends. Inspector Sejer is called to investigate the case, read those lines in search of an explanation, but another lake rises a second corpse. Who is the body found again? Is there a link between the two dead?
