ON THE LEFT OF RIO PISUERGA – Valladolid and Old Castile, chests Inside stone ancient castles

Vitruvian Man created by Leonardo da Vinci is a design, where a man in two overlapped positions (with arms and legs spread wide), is inscribed in a circle and a square. https://leonardodavinci.stanford.edu/submissions/clabaugh/history/leonardo.html Throughout the centuries, that image has become a cultural icon. Perfectly proportioned, the symmetry of the human anatomy is correlated with the symmetry of the universe. That man is you, inside your existential experience, where you breathe and see, hear, eat and feel it, also visiting Old Castile. In Old Castile, to the left of the Pisuerga river, you can find a Spanish city full of historical memories.

You can walk in the shadow of the arcades of Plaza Mayor, or go to the Plaza de Zorilla (where they meet the main streets of the city), but do not forget to see San Pablo. That of the fifteenth century church, has an incredible stone masterpiece: the façade dotted with figures and relief embroidery. Just opposite the church, the Palacio Real offers you the chance to admire its grand patios and galleries, adorned the busts of Roman emperors. 6 km northwest of the city, the Fuensaldaña Castle is still wonderfully enclosed by its mighty walls of the fifteenth century. If you want, we can get in, because there are interesting visited gothic environments. The air that we breathe in the famous Castle of Simancas, is certainly more sparkling.

Curiously, the property was always considerately designed to embody something: prisoners and precious historical documents. The third stone of our journey chest is a little further away. 56 km east of Valladolid, a fortified village – right on the border between Castile and Leon – continues to be dominated by a castle of massive proportions. Starting from the eleventh century, the double walls of Penafiel exhibits its invulnerability, well rooted on a rocky outcrop overlooking the city. We can go to eat in Plaza Mayor, passing through an arch, where do not enter more bulls, but people trying to see the beauty of the wooden houses that overlook the square. http://www.spain.info/en/que-quieres/arte/monumentos/valladolid/castillo_de_penafiel.html
