He is a writer, essayist, poet and writer born in a southern city of Albania, who graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology at the University of Tirana. At first he devoted himself to poetry, but in 1963 he wrote his first novel. In 1990 to express their disapproval of the immobility of the Albanian Communist leadership, he requested and was granted political asylum in France. Since 1996, he is an associate member of the Académie des sciences morales life et politiques.
