IGNORING ALL RULES – Naoto Hattori: painting whatever comes, into stream of consciousness

1NAOTO HATTORI 1/3 – Ignoring all rules, he paints whatever comes into his stream of consciousness. However, he starts each painting by making many sketches to put all his thoughts together. His vision is like a nightmare, or just a trippy dream. First, just take it in as it is and paint whatever you see in your mind with no compromise. Anyone can try to see what’s really going on in his mind.9

NAOTO HATTORI 2/3 – He was born in 1975 in Yokohama, Japan, where has been drawing and doodling ever since he was three years old. Then, he studied graphic design in Tokyo (before he moved to study in the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he received his BFA in Illustration. He try to express something from his inner mind. Sometimes it comes out very weird and twisted, but he like to paint with no compromises, exploring feelings and finding something that Ihe want to paint.17

NAOTO HATTORI 3/3 – Just like surrealists, children often come up with idiosyncratic and whimsical drawings, for that he likens his painting to children’s drawings. Children draw without caring about what other people think and whether their drawings correspond to reality. Unlike young children, he has been perfecting his craft for many years and he often spends more hours on his paintings (but when he doesn’t paint, he sketches new ideas). Whimsical paintings of floating heads, cute one-eyed cats, and various hybrid creatures. And yes, each one of them is a astonishing mixture of playfulness.logo Meeting Benches
