THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF LOVE OF A BAKER’S DAUGHTER – La Fornarina, the never extinguished love between Rome and Urbino

lafornarina.1.1“La Fornarina” is an oil painting on wood, made by Raffaello Sanzio nearly five centuries ago. To admire that fruit of artistic creativity, you have to go to Rome, in the Palazzo Barberini National Gallery. That painting was preserved by Raphael in his studio until his death. For the identity of the model, imagine a girl named Margherita Luti – a baker’s daughter of Trastevere in Rome – that would have been at that time the woman loved by Raphael, then passed into history as the “Fornarina”. Every time that I come back in Urbino, the town of Raffaello Sanzio, I stand (for lunch or dinner), always at 14 Via Mazzini, in my special restaurant. I’ve never been disappointed, with that competent people. http://www.terrediurbino.it/it/db/9961/urbino/mangiare/ristorante/ristorante-la-vecchia-fornarina.aspx lafornarina2.1Right in the center of the city, “La Fornarina” restaurant welcomes guests in an ancient wine cellar. I always start from a mixed appetizer (two crostini, grilled Caciotta of Urbino, salami, prosciutto and figs, arugula with shaved Parmesan cheese and mushrooms). You like to eat meat? Well, you have a rich choice of meat (excellent veal steak), but do not forget the first classic dishes (lasagna, cappelletti, ravioli, tagliatelle and passatelli). Prices? Reasonable and honest, with a fast and friendly service. Yes, an old inn run, where the menu is varied and inviting, with dishes of traction of these lands. I forgot: I have tried to eat a kind of early (all delicious), and in particular “Strozzapreti at the Fornarina”, to try, to believe! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Urbino-Ristorante-La-Fornarina/1388994128075004
