A PRECIOUS JEWEL, BETWEEN RIVER MURRAY AND PACIFIC OCEAN – New South Wales, natural treasures that will leave you breathless.

In Australian history, the first British settlement was carried out by what the Australians remember with the name “the first fleet”, consisting of 11 boats and 1400 passengers. On January 26, 1788, that fleet arrived in Port Jackson. From that distant fragment of history, the Australian Day was born. Since then, New South Wales has experienced rapid economic and social growth, but agriculture has remained a very important sector of the economy, along with tourism. This territory can be divided geographically into a coastal strip, the mountainous area of the Great Dividing Range, the agricultural plains and the arid plains in the extreme north-west part (still today with rare and small human settlements).

For her 2016 Nostalgic for the Present Tour, SIA partnered with various rescue organizations to conduct a dog adoption fair at each of her concerts. She was nominated for a 2016 Libby Award for “Best Voice for Animals”. In 1997 she released her debut studio album (OnlySee in Australia), but it did not sell well. She moved to London (England), and provided lead vocals for the British duo Zero 7. Known as SIA, she is an Australian singer and songwriter. Born into a Dicember day 1975 in Adelaide, she started her career as a singer in the acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-1990s in Adelaide. In 2018, Dolly Parton released a single featuring Sia’s vocals, titled “Here I Am”, the first release from the “Dumplin'” soundtrack album.

For the second part of our “author’s journey” in Australia, starting in Melbourne from Adelaide arrive in eight hours of car, covering 451 miles. Visiting this town, you will know the luminous White Night festival in February, the Comedy Festival in April, Melbourne Fringe in September or Melbourne Festival in October. Something special? The Astor. Is an Art Deco gem that’s been in operation as a cinema since 1936. The theatre it’s a cultural hub for movie fans, with remastered classics, film festivals and special events. The cellar doors are open every weekend (and the winery restaurants are becoming some of the most sought-after dining destinations out of Melbourne). You too can experience the Yarra Valley trip, with its rolling green hills, swaying vineyards and old farmhouses.

This home of Australian art, presenting Indigenous and non-Indigenous art (from the colonial period to the present day). Founded in 1861 in Melbourne, the National Gallery Victoria holds a vast treasury of more than 70,000 works. The NGV has a range of Access Tours, including Audio Describing, with designated Access days organised for particular exhibitions. Here you can find the NGV Grollo Equiset Garden (open daily, 11am–4pm, Lunch served until 2.30pm), with hts menu focused on seasonal produce. Before leaving the museum, do not forget to admire the wonderful paintings by the Australian figurative painter Charles Blackman.

545 miles and nine hours drive, is what you need to get to Sydney, after having tasted the sweetness of Melbourne. Sydney’s a beautiful place to live, where you can find many things to do, from kayaking on the harbour to cocktails with a view. During your trip, you can see Sydney Harbour by night, when it takes on a whole new magnitude. Visiting Carriageworks Farmers Market (the busiest Saturday market in the city), you can find its range of seasonal produce (including biodynamic foods from farmers and producers from across New South Wales). Just under this crystalline sky, a famous Australian figurative painter was born.

In his fading light he did little else than draw ghostly static schoolgirl shape, boats and cats and windows. For him, the artist’s job is to discover new meaning in his life. Born on August day, 1928 in Sydney (Australia), growing largely self-taught, and became an illustrator at the Sun newspaper. By using exaggerated angles and strong directional light, CHARLES BLACKMAN conveys narrative events from his character’s point of view. Today, his works are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne) and the Tate Gallery in London.

Her best-known poem was written at age 19, while homesick in England, and was first published in 1908. The only daughter of noted physician, DOROTHEA MACKELLAR was born into a July day in Sydney in 1885. Although raised in a professional urban family, her poetry is inspired by her experience on her brothers’ farms near Gunnedah (North-West New South Wales).

175 miles by car (almost 3 hours and a half away, up to Scone), will lead to the end of this “author’s journey” in Australia. The annual Horse Festival it is celebrated in Scone during May, and includes all manner of activities (including wine tours, Scone rodeo and a parade in Kelly Street. Most of the population of the Hunter Region, lives within 16 mi of the coast (with 55% of the entire population living in the cities of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie). Right under this sky, a little child would become a famous writer.

After a youth spent in the bush, she had worked as a governess in Merrylong Park, where she met her first husband. BARBARA BAYNTON distinguished herself by eloquence and charm, but also for her taste in dress and for being frank. She was born in a day in June 1857 in Scone (New South Wales). In her works, tales of harsh female experiences were set against even harsher Australian landscapes, such as in her 1896 short story.
