His childhood spent drowing on the floor, where he used to draw elephants and trees. Born into a May day in Jamshedpur, JAHAR DASGUPTA at the age of 9 he draw faces on the wall, and of his parents and they decided to send him in some art school. Later his family moved to Dhanbad. 1960, he was admitted to Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan, living a turning point in his life. In 1964, he obtained diploma from Kala Bhavana.

Reality transformed with an air of fantasy, this is the essence of forms of his art. JAHAR DASGUPTA had developed his individual style in paintings and drawings, but previously now he mainly works in ink, pastel and acrylic colour. In 2004, he exhibited his first solo in abroad Norway and later in Sweden. He has lived and worked in Kolkata, and (apart from exhibitions in major cities of India), his works have been exhibited abroad in London and Paris, South Korea, Oslo and Stockholm.
