THOMAS HART BENTON was born in a April day in Neosho (Missouri), where politics was the core of family life, but with his mother’s encouragement, he chose to study art. Rebelling against the expectations of his family he moved to Chicago, where he enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago. In his paintings, he was devoted to the evocations of music as a method of communication. In 1929, he emerged as the spokesman for the American Regionalist painters. https://mostateparks.com/park/thomas-hart-benton-home-and-studio-state-historic-site
