FRANCOIS BOUCHER (1703/1770), FRENCH ROCOCO’ PAINTER – The importance of the fluid stretch and the solar colors

Painting at the king’s court, thus representing French taste abroad

FRANCOIS BOUCHER had raised the level of the preliminary design for studio painting, bringing it to authentic and finished art in its own right. Among his portraits, the most famous is that of madame Pompadour, built in 1755. At the height of his success, he welcomed various painters in his atelier (including Fragonard and David). With the work “Venus ordering Vulcan weapons for Aeneas”, he began a series of mythological treatment, with elegant and sensual figures, light colors and enveloping shapes. He was born in Paris on a September day, learning from his father the first painting and printing techniques. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UHNWwW30cM

In 1727, FRANCOIS BOUCHER  at his own expense and as a free student, he was welcomed to the French Academy. In the same year he had stayed in Rome, where he was impressed by the pictorial style of Veronese, Guercino and Tiepolo. His chosen instrument for drawing varied from pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, to crayon, to watercolor wash, to various chalks of different colors. He was married in 1733 with Marie Jeanne Buseaux (intelligent and herself an artist), who often took as a model. In 1734 he was appointed a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, also obtaining the position of first painter of the king beyond. He worked for the mansions of the rich aristocrats and for those of the financiers, but the most illustrious of his clients was madame the marquise of Pompadour (the favorite of Louis XV). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp7Dop66nTE
