THE DREAM CITY – Piran, Slovenia

The Vitruvian Man, is a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci. https://leonardodavinci.stanford.edu/submissions/clabaugh/history/leonardo.html It is accompanied by notes based on the work of the architect Vitruvius. The drawing, depicts a man in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and inscribed in a circle and square. Leonardo’s image has become much more than a literal illustration of a proportional canon. Over the centuries it has developed into a cultural icon adopted by various causes that Vitruvius never dreamed of. That perfectly proportioned man, correlating the symmetry of human anatomy with the symmetry of the universe, it’s also what you everyday see, hear, eat and feel, also visiting Slovenia.

The nearest airport is in Trieste, but you do not need to go far to discover incredible places, sometimes poorly understood. Welcome to Piran, http://www.slovenia.info/en/turisticni-ponudniki/Tourist-information-office-Pir.htm?turisticni_ponudniki=6572&lng=2 Little Venice lies on the Slovenian coast, not far from the Italian border. As you can see, the Gothic architecture of its historic center also gives you a nice view, just like a postcard. Everything is perfectly preserved. We can go out to sea, looking for a restaurant for our dinner, in one of his beautiful, small squares. This is one of the most photogenic cities in the Mediterranean. Yes, the picturesque Piran has preserved its charm.

Having coffee, lunch or dinner, surrounded by sounds of the sea, also to you will ensure pleasant memories, for a long, long time to come. Piran is very proud of its various cultural and art establishments (such as the Tartini theatre, coastal galleries, Maritime museum and Aquarium). The Portorož peninsula http://www.portoroz.si/en/ extends into the landscape of the Secovlje salt-pans, with its southern slope. With its more or less agriculturally transformed green cultural terraces, it represents a fragment of the characteristic litoral cultural landscape, supplemented by the elements of our cultural heritage (the Forma viva exibition grounds of stone statues, and the archaeological site).

A group of Piran artists, many years ago, had organmizzato in the picturesque art town of Piran a particular event. Artists from around the world gave life – in a span of precise time – in works of art which were then evaluated and awarded by a jury of experts. This was the basic concept of the event: Ex-tempore Piran. For many years (traditionally, in September), this event http://www.obalne-galerije.si/index.php/si/article/658/1 is a full entry on cultural events of Slovenian Istria. For this reason the coastal art galleries in Piran organized side exhibitions and other cultural events. The works will be on display in the Civic Gallery in Piran (and in the exhibition space of Monfort in Portoroz), 3 to 27 September 2016.

Fish low cost in Piran? Simple, by Fritolin Pri Cantini. If you want to eat a nice plate of fried fish at affordable prices in Piran, you can go to the square May Day. 20 euro, this you have to spend for a plate of fried fish (large platter for two people), served at the tables in front of the restaurant, in the shade of a green gazebo, but if you prefer you can go on the terrace in the center of the square (as some now also home to street musicians). Reading the menu, you also discover other specialties, but in the mixed plate is a taste of everything. What do we drink? The nearby cellar offers table service, with a wide choice of drinks (even this time, we prefer the Malvasia wine, again a low cost product).
