NEED TO FORGET AND WANT TO LIVE – Travel to Riga, not forgetting the PinUp bar and the beach of Jurmala

Capitalism cannibalizing this city, as in the rest of Europe, but the Latvian capital does not hide the scars of a troubled past. Do not be fooled by its austere appearance or its small, quiet streets made of cobblestones. Riga is a cauldron of life and fun, full of quirky local, modern art and contemporary art centers, restaurants, and beautiful nature (just a stone’s throw from the city). A city light years away from that gray and faded image that characterizes the cities of the former Soviet bloc. In Riga, you will certainly visit the Occupation Museum (historical memory of the nation, guards the steps of the ascent to power of the Communist Nazi regimes). Not far from the museum, you have another place of strong emotion: the Palace of the KGB (the headquarters from which went orders that determined the life of every citizen). Perhaps you too, coming home, will preserve a strange feeling of this city that embodies two souls: the need to forget and the desire to live the present.

The historic center of Riga is a jewel in the Art Nouveau style, but it is the middle course (Kalku), which is overlooked by many bars and restaurants. There is no better place to warm up ahead of your evening. For a drink in the center of Riga, we recommend the “PinUp”, a bar overlooking the bank of the river Daugava, in the castle area. Where do the sunrise? The most beautiful nightclub in Riga is the “Studio 69”. For centuries it was a fishing village, but at the beginning of the nineteenth century began to receive the nobility of half of Europe. With the beautiful summer season, during your vacation in Riga, you can spend a day in Jurmala, a seaside town that you can easily reach twenty kilometers from Riga (with a minibus from the square of the central station). Jurmala is very famous for the beach (very large and fine white sand), where you can walk among the dunes, thick pine forests and birch forests, but also with the possibility of access to museums, or modern spas. When you’re hungry, no problem: you can find a long list of restaurants, because this is a perfect location for a dose of relaxation and fun.

Everyone loves to travel, but not everyone loves to travel the same way. All you have to do is have the time in your life. Meeting Benches. The way to make the world a better place is easy. Choose a bench, where you can publish what you have painted or written, a review of a book that you’ve read, or the story of a journey that you have made. Past and Present are here and now. Our proposal call any web-traveler to sit into Meeting Benches info@meetingbenches.com to share emotions, observing new creative horizons.
