MUSIC AROUND CHINESE PEOPLE – Astonishment of poems, emphasized ceremonies and music

Chinese music continues to evolve in the modern times, and more contemporary forms have also emerged, but different types of music have been recorded in historical Chinese documents from the early periods of Chinese civilization. Traditional Chinese music can be traced back 7,000 – 8,000 years based on the discovery of a bone flute made in the Neolithic Age. In the Song Dynasty, original opera such as Zaju and Nanxi was performed in tearooms, theatres, and showplaces. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the art of traditional opera developed rapidly and diversely in different regions.

Traditional Musical Instruments, they can be divided into four categories: stringed instruments, percussion instruments, plucked instruments, and wind instruments. Confucius taught that: “To educate somebody, you should start with poems, emphasize ceremonies, and finish with music.” Annual events such as the Midi Modern Music Festival in Beijing attracts tens of thousands of visitors. Today, rock music is centered on almost exclusively in Beijing and Shanghai, and has very limited influence over Chinese society.
