JOURNEY THROUGH TIME AND SPACE – Ekaterinburg, the only city in the world to belong to two different continents

ekaterinburg2.1ekaterinburg2.1Yekaterinburg, is the administrative center of Sverdlovsk Oblast, located in the middle of the Eurasian continent, on the border of Europe and Asia. The city was one of Russia’s first industrial cities, prompted at the start of the eighteenth century by decrees from the Tsar requiring the development in Yekaterinburg of metal-working businesses. Following the October Revolution, the family of deposed Tsar Nicholas II were sent to internal exile in Yekaterinburg where they were imprisoned in the Ipatiev House in the city, where they died. During the 1930s, Yekaterinburg was one of several places developed by the Soviet government as a center of heavy industry. That wonderful town, it is surrounded by wooded hills, partially cultivated for agricultural purposes, and small lakes, but also it is home to numerous theatres and museums, including several museums of Ural minerals and jewelry. In Ekaterinburg was then tested the first jet in the world with jet engine, the BI-2, and designed the plant Uralmash-15000 drilling, thanks to which it has drilled the deepest well in the world parametric. http://www.visitrussia.org.uk/ekateringburg1.1ekateringburg1.1

Usually, tourists who travel to Ekaterinburg make stops at least two special places: the pillar symbolizing the boundary between Europe and Asia (which rises to seventeen kilometers of Moskovsky trakt), and the place where the royal family of the Romanovs was executed. If you walk in the historic center and on the ground see a painted line with a red gloss paint, follow it. That line is a walkway that winds through the main places of cultural interest of the city. Are you traveling in romantic company? A must-see landmark, particularly suitable to increase the rate of romance of your trip: the sculpture dedicated to Love, a 7-ton boulder made of pink Rhodonite, extracted in a local field. Our dinner? At Pashtet Restaurant, an sophisticated dining experience indulging in Russian cuisine. The most captivating part of Pashtet Restaurant is its interior, since it resembles a big apartment with bullfinch wallpapers and Soviet furniture, where huddles their cat. The menu offers the best dishes of national Russian gastronomy, home-style cooked healthy soups, fish pies, salo, pelmeni and vareniki. http://www.ekaterinburg.tv/aboutcity.htmekateringburg3.1ekateringburg3.1
