THE SCARLET LETTER – Romance, by Nathaniel Hawthorne

A Romance is an 1850 work of fiction in a historical setting, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, where you can know Hester Prynne, she bears an illegitimate child. It was June 1642, in the Puritan town of Boston, when a crowd gathers to witness the punishment of a young woman found guilty of adultery. The Hawthorne’s compelling novel, of the callous judgment (by the puritans of Boston, Massachusetts), meted out to an unmarried mother. Throughout “The scarlet letter”, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism and sin. Set in Puritan community centuries ago, the moral dilemmas of personal responsibility (consuming emotions of guilt, anger, loyalty and revenge), are timeless. Much of the novel’s introductory section is true, and is based on Hawthorne’s employment in the building of that same name in Salem, Massachusetts. Reading, you can discover inside a thoughtful study of society’s, the ambivalent and contradictory treatment of women. Uniquely among male novelists of his era. http://www.amazon.com/Scarlet-Letter-Nathaniel-Hawthorne/dp/1500759120
