MASTERPIECES OF ART IN THE CENTURIES / CHICAGO – George Seurat: A Sunday on La Grande Jatte

The painting has precise geometric rules, but the most important is symmetry with respect to the central axis, determined by the woman with the little girl. That painting was lent to The Art Institute of Chicago, where you can go to admire it. Imagine being inside a Sunday afternoon on the island of Grande-Jatte. Imagine that on that day you preserve a memory indelibly beautiful. Imagine you are a French painter, eye cleverly parodistic, able to capture in a 207.6 x 308 cm canvas that splendid Grande Jatte, together with the bourgeois society of the time (including the woman who walked a monkey, rather than a dog). http://www.artic.edu/

That work of art is really born, between 1884 and 1886, for the creative impulse effect of Georges-Pierre Seurat. The framework, among the most famous works of art movement of French Pointillism, was born after a meticulous preparation, realized by the painter with many preparatory studies, drawn or painted. The subject of the painting, is typical of the Impressionist painting: a scene of urban life, lived with joy and abandon. Socchiudi gradually eyes, you too can perceive that light, relaxed air, full of pleasant sensations, statically fixed with the colors, stopping and freezing time.
