FROM A DISTANT TIME – The Canzoniere, by Francesco Petrarca

From medieval to Renaissance time, the poets are maintained within two expressive strands: love in the service of a woman (chosen as the centerpiece of his poetic world), and love as a prison of the male heart. In Italy, it is with “Il Canzoniere” by Francesco Petrarca that is the transition between the two eras. Classical antiquity is again a model to inspire, and daily life makes its way into literature. Italy Renaissance has been through a time of unparalleled artistic flowering. Extraordinary famous painters (Leonardo, Raffaello Tiziano), had become a universally recognized artistic model. Famous architects (Brunelleschi, Bramante and Michelangelo), they renew the face of the city. In literature, the Italian Renaissance is expressed by Ludovico Ariosto and Torquato Tasso, but also with Niccolò Machiavelli and Francesco Guicciardini. http://www.amazon.com/Petrarch-Canzoniere-Rerum-vulgarium-fragmenta/dp/0253213177 Interest in the classical world, by the papal court spreads in the courts of princes and lords of the major Italian cities, places, though, they shone different values, all connected to life and wealth, but also in search of beauty. The Canzoniere, it gathers into itself 366 poems. The final layout of the text is the result of the last author reshuffle, which took place between 1372 and 1374. The Canzoniere, it contains texts that thematically cover almost the entire span of life of the poet. The exhibition order, respect the chronological order of events (not the order of composition), because Petrarch wants to introduce effectively and rationally the episodes of his love affair with Laura. As you read, try to imagine that you are reading an autobiographical diary, a special diary, which arrived in a distant time. http://www.amazon.it/Canzoniere-Francesco-Petrarca/dp/8817050598
