BETWEEN THE HEART AND A MAPLE LEAF – Poetry, by Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna

BETWEEN THE HEART AND A MAPLE LEAF

Between the heart and a maple leaf there is a thread, along which the thought walking barefoot, and after its passage, or before his arrival, dance on the golden thread the wasp and horsefly. The stout fly and wasp in her brindle coat; they are a little ugly, but you can take it with a glove. Between the heart and the leaf window must be open, the leaf must be fresh, and the heart is not torn, and you need not fear the fly or the wasp, nor fear the hum or the wings on the cheeks. And then the heart can get out of the chest, and with golden shoes dancing along the thread-path in the air like the grass.
