THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD – White on blue, wood and water: trip to Petrozavodsk in Russian Karelia

http://www.visitrussia.org.uk/ This is a land full of clear blue lakes and rushing rivers, with stunning waterfalls and typical monuments of the Russian north. Welcome to Karelia, Petrozavodsk, on the shore of Lake Onega (300 km north-east of St. Petersburg). “Peter’s Factory” is the meaning of the name of this city, where you can admire some beautiful wooden houses, not miss a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts (an exquisite collection of 800 medieval icons and paintings by Russian artists). http://www.barentsinfo.org/Barents-region/Towns-and-municipalities/Murmansk-and-Karelia

You have interest for folk art? Well, we can go to the Museum of Local History. After, we can continue to the natural park of Kivach (10,000 hectares of forests), to the waterfalls of the Suna River. We could go by hydrofoil in the small island of Kizi (the middle of Lake Onega), to admire an amazing open-air museum, filled with examples of Russian wooden architecture, photographing the beautiful Cathedral of the Transfiguration (with its incredible 20 domes, spanning the largest dome). You know why this church is called the eighth wonder of the world? The craftsmen who have built it, they did not use nails, but only wooden joints. http://en.directrooms.com/hotels/info/2-49-7127-195623/?aw_campaignid=77526553&aw_adgroupid=8377347793&aw_matchtype=e&aw_device=c&aw_network=g&aw_placement=&aw_target=&aw_adposition=1t2&aw_targetid=kwd-23880188523&aw_loc_physical_ms=9062578&aw_creative=37511452753&gclid=CjwKEAiAxfu1BRDF2cfnoPyB9jESJADF-MdJscLwsAgWIMXyk36RpH2df55YKYsiUwIyQhHvV9iqVRoCqg_w_wcB
