I HELD TIGHT FOR A LONG TIME MY ANGEL: Poetry by Ranier Maria Rilke

I HELD TIGHT FOR A LONG TIME MY ANGEL

ombra1.1ombra1.1I held tight for a long time my Angel,

and he finally sadness spread over him in my arms.
He was small, and I’m great:
until it was I the compassion,
and he’s only a prayer shaking.
Only then I restored to him his heavens,
fading, left me his most intimate things.
He learned to fly, I learned the life
and slowly one another we recognised each other.
(Rainer Maria Rilke)
