AFTER MIDNIGHT – Mohan Rana / A poetry that defies any categorisation.

The city of New Delhi still bears the influence of British colonial rule, also in its buildings and propensity for high tea. His vivid poems probe philosophical questions, through the everyday imagery made by stars and birds, but also by rain and shirts. His haunting poems have been beautifully rendered into English. Amongst the new generation of Hindi poets, his poetry it defies any categorisation. He really knows the difference between thinking in verse and thinking about poetry. Does the light see the dark? Does the. In the boundless depths of darkness, these hours hunt the morning through the night. And I can’t make up my mind: am I living this life for the first time? Or repeating it, forgetting as I live the first moment of breath every rain too get wet? Do dreams ask questions about sleep as I do?
