ZLATKO PRICA (1916/2003), CROATIAN PAINTER

ZLATKO PRICA 1/3 – He loved to draw figures and scenes, crystallizing in his precious chromatic contrasts. What he painted was functional to color, synthesizing his exquisite landscapes. In the 1960s, he approached abstractism, no longer captivated by the geometries of the realism of the origins and each painting is governed by the vital energy of colors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t8CuoDAYHY

ZLATKO PRICA 2/3 – His pictorial creativity can be traced back to five important cycles: Samoborski, Seeds of countryside, Anatomy of nature, Tarski and Umbrellas of Opatija. He was born in Pecs in 1916, graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (for his exceptional talent, in the last school year he was awarded with scholarship) and realized his first personal show in 1941. Shortly thereafter – during World War II – this experience marked him deeply, having to face a long Nazi captivity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLV9sqDDKtA

ZLATKO PRICA 3/3 – He had traveled to India, fascinated with the tradition of local painting. From this experience, his pictorial action approached primitivism. In the immediate aftermath of war he had also traveled to Paris and Brazil. Back home, he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Until the mid-fifties, his pictorial horizon was figurative, with masterful use of color, which accompanied him all the time.
