THE SEPTEMBERS OF SHIRAZ – Novel by Dalia Sofer

All her childhood seemed like a dream. Allow Iran (so abruptly), has left a void in her, as if her life had not been quite real. http://meetingbenches.com/2017/04/iranian-inner-landscapes/ For a long time she lived with a sense of duality in living between two cultures, two people, two stories. Dalia Sofer was born in Tehran in 1972 and now lives in New York – where she got a master’s degree in creative writing – but at the age of ten, in 1982, had moved with his family to the United States. Her first book, “The Septembers of Shiraz” was classified by the New York Times among the 100 most important books of 2007.

The Septembers of Shiraz is a critically acclaimed novel by Dalia Sofer. https://www.amazon.com/Septembers-Shiraz-Novel-P-S/dp/B0058M68CO In the aftermath of the Iranian revolution, Isaac Amin is arrested, accused of being a spy. Terrified by his disappearance, his family must reconcile a new world of chaos, with the collapse of everything they have known. As Isaac navigates the terrors of prison, his wife searches for him, suspecting, all the while, that their once-trusted housekeeper has turned on them and is now acting as an informer. This novel simmers with questions of alienation and love, not simply for a spouse or a child, but for all the intangible sights and smells of the place we call home. It narrates the lives of an Iranian family during and after the Iranian revolution which additionally overthrew the Shah and ushered in the Islamic republic. There is also a subplot involving a Hasidic family in New York.
