THE MACABRE DANCE – The Death triumph in Clusone, Italy

In Val Seriana (province of Bergamo), there is a medieval building commissioned by the brotherhood of governing. The oratory of the governing of Clusone, http://www.valseriana.eu/arte-e-cultura/la-danza-macabra-el-oratorio-dei-disciplini-di-san-bernardino-clusone/ owns a cycle of frescoes of 1485, all painted by Giacomo de Borlone Buschis. Visiting this site, you’ll find the memory of old fear – the plague. The Triumph of Death and Danse Macabre are visible in the outer part of the oratorio. Triumphant Death is personified as a skeleton, with a cloak and crown above her head. In Triumph of Death, Death has indeed the appearance of a queen who submits all to herself.

In Triumph of Death can be seen inscription, where is written name of people, who will die of plague. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd_0ToeF3KA Coincidentally she decides who to hit, death does not save anybody and chooses accidentally. In a marble tomb, at the foot of death, you can observe the bodies of the Pope and the Emperor. Both are surrounded by the emblems of sudden death: scorpions, snakes and toads.

On the left, you can observe the meeting of those living and the dead (three horsemen who met their death during a hunting party). Look carefully: the arrow shot from the skeleton to hit the hunter. The danse macabre is right at the center of the fresco and very person has frightened expression by meeting their corpse, which smiling confuses their fear. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tXNhkj7U4I The bottom (The Last Judgement) Lucifer takes the souls of naked female bodies (souls), causing them to burn in the fires of hell.
