WHEN PAINTIG EXPRESSES PASSION AND CONTEMPLATION – The Lena Gal’s painter experience

LENA GAL 1/4 – Her favorite colors are earth colors, ocher, brown, blue, red and yellow. Her interest in art comes from her childhood, when she felt excited about using color pencils and making clay figurines. In Portugal and abroad, she is a listed artist featured in several magazines and art publications. She likes to explore the borderline between dreams and reality, and paints largely from memory and imagination. Born in 1957, on São Miguel, Azores, her art starts with nature and ends with nature using intense earth colors (reminiscent of the volcanic Azorean scorched landscape).

LENA GAL 2/4 – She grew up in a small village with very limited resources, and a very little exposure to art work. She made dolls of clay and drew, on the ground with a stick. She also watched the women doing their domestic work, and was fascinated by the stories they told. Growing up, she continued to draw and experimenting. Only when she moved to Lisbon, she had the opportunity to enjoy art work which was very important for my artistic development.

LENA GAL 3/4 – Her art is eclectic, dynamic and technically skillful. http://www.lena-gal.com/lg/ She has been painting professionally for over twenty five years. She have many favorite artists, but she particularly identify with painter Graça Morais. Her identification with art is connected to her innermost being, with her feelings of melancholy, anxiety and emotional intuition. She get inspiration from dreams and memories, pictures, photos and women.

LENA GAL 4/4 – The apparent ease of her composition reveals mastery, dedication and nurturing. Her intuitive talent creates women contours, shaped like islands, symbolic of the insular isolation of her birth place. The almost religious and mystic quality of her creations, expresses passion and sensuality, inside calmness and contemplation. Her work is represented in public and private collections and has been exhibited in Portugal and Spain, France and Italy, Argentina, United Arab Emirates and the United States.
