RAISE THE RED LANTERN: Novel, by Su Tong

What you read, you talk of a China immersed in medieval times of pre-revolutionary social decomposition. Leafing through the pages of the novel, you will discover the young Songlian, a girl who agrees to become the fourth wife and concubine of rich Chen Zuoqian. You must adapt to the rules that the “home” requires wives (the husband has – among other things – the right to choose each evening the woman with whom spend the night making turn in front of the residence of the selected one of red lanterns). The lives of wives, is consumed while waiting for that moment. Only the young Songlian has the courage to dismantle the logic of that privilege. His reaction, collides with the wall of indifference.
