BETWEEN MY FINGERS I HELD A JEWEL: Poetry, by Emily Dickinson

BETWEEN MY FINGERS I HELD A JEWEL
Between my fingers I held a jewel,
When I slept.
The day was warm,
It was tedious wind
and I said, will last.
I did cry when I wake up
unsuspecting fingers,
the gem was gone.
Now just a memory of amethyst
to me remains.
